Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) by SGS Utility Executive Guests
What exactly are the 2013 Smart Grid Summits?
The RSGS and MSGS are one-of-a-kind events modeled on a formula proven to be highly productive to the utility industry based on surveys and feedback. This is an unprecedented opportunity for influential Rural Electric Cooperative and Municipal Utility Executives to connect with the industry's leading and most promising smart grid vendors in a variety of productive settings. It also provides you with the chance to engage with peers to share successes, missteps, strategies and plans for success.
How do I connect with leading vendors at the Summit?
You will find numerous ways designed specifically to optimize your time making this the most productive summit you have experienced. Private Boardroom appointments provide the opportunity to gain a strong competitive edge by giving you first-hand introductions to the latest technology breakthroughs. You will be able to discuss them in an environment aimed at creating industry relationships and partnerships. Meet and speak with executives from senior product development, engineering and management. The Solution Showcase enables industrious, one-on-one meetings ideal for evaluating new technologies and conducting the in-depth discussions that can lead to strong partnerships. Executive Premiers, Knowledge Track presentations and a dynamic series of social and networking events are designed to solidify Summit relationships.
What can I expect from Knowledge Track presentations and Private Boardroom appointments?
Knowledge Track presentations are interactive forums where analysts, editors and other industry experts will present the latest technology trends, market conditions and sales strategies designed to assist you in expanding your business opportunities. Private Boardroom appointments will bring together select groups of 8 to 10 Rural Electric Cooperative Executives and Municipal Utility Executives for 25-minutes of interactive dialogue with vendors about their product and service offerings. You'll also get the chance to exchange successful ideas and information with your peers.
Who's invited to Smart Grid Summits?
The Summit's exclusive, by-invitation-only list of guests includes 100 Rural Electric Cooperatives Executives for the RSGS event and over 100 of the leading Municipal Utilities Executives for the MSGS event. Exceptional professionals across the United States will be considered on the size of their Smart Grid strategy, customer base, miles of utility lines, market influence and breadth of services and solutions, with the final guest list limited to leaders in their respective regions and markets. More than anything, SGS seek out progressive, forward-thinking utility leaders.
What's the cost of attending the Summit?
For those Rural Electric Cooperative and Municipal Utility Executives who qualify for this by-invitation-only event, there's no cost at all. Executives are provided an all-expense-paid grant package including airfare, ground transportation, deluxe hotel accommodations and meals.
During this 2½-day event, guests will meet and interact with the world's most future-focused vendors, industry analysts and media at all Summit events including Private Boardroom appointments, Executive Premiers, Knowledge Track presentations and social gatherings.
What's expected from me as a hosted guest?
In order to ensure your participation at either RSGS or MSGS is as productive as possible, we ask that our qualified guests:
- Attend all educational seminars, Private Boardroom appointments and networking functions
- Visit the Solutions Showcase to view, discuss and get answers about vendor offerings
- Participate in discussions and provide feedback to vendors and peers
- Collect product information and complete all survey materials
Why attend the Summit if I already connect with vendors?
It's the quality of Summit participants that makes the difference. Given the audience — senior-level executives representing the top smart grid vendors — the Summit affords opportunities not readily available on a day-to-day basis. You'll be privy to the latest technology breakthroughs, non-disclosure agreement sessions, and new product announcements. These intimate, one-on-one information sessions, insights and strategies will shape and optimize your future partner programs. Plus, you'll have the chance to meet and interact with your most successful peers as part of a learning opportunity found nowhere else.
How will my time be scheduled at the Summit?
The Smart Grid Summits have been organized for maximum productivity, offering a full schedule of business and networking events throughout each day and evening with regular breaks to allow you to connect with your office and check emails. Summit Private Boardroom appointments, Executive Premiers, the Solution Showcase and Knowledge Track and keynote presentations — they'll all provide the focus and the face time with industry leaders you just can't tap into during your normal routine.

"I have over 20 years of electric cooperative experience, and the Smart Grid Summits have been the most productive and well executed events I have ever attended. The opportunity to interact with multiple vendors and gather real information in a non-sales environment, as well as the collaboration with other utility executives has proved to be a valuable use of my time."
